New waste and recycling council formed

Five of Australia’s waste management and recycling heavyweights have joined forces to establish a new organisation to champion the industry.

Cleanaway, JJ Richards, Remondis, SUEZ and Veolia have agreed to form the National Waste & Recycling Industry Council (NWRIC), which will act as the industry’s national policy-setting body.

An open invitation has been extended to other waste and recycling companies with a national presence to join the Council.

EPA orders nine waste companies to shape up

Nine waste operators run afoul of Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) NSW for various waste-related offences committed in western Sydney.

A total of $113,500 was meted out in fines. According to EPA Executive Director of Resource Recovery Steve Beaman, the facilities had put the environment and human health at risk.  

Veolia offers waste customers digital reporting

Veolia Australia has partnered with technology provider Envizi to offer customers digital tracking for waste and recycling activities.

Touting the offering as unprecedented in Australia’s waste industry, Veolia will provide its customers with information on key metrics including total spend, waste diversion and intensity data.

Veolia opens new Tasmanian headquarters

Veolia’s new Tasmanian headquarters was opened today by the premier Will Hodgman.

Located at Cambridge Industrial Precinct, about 15 kilometres from Hobart’s CBD, the state-of-the-art facility built for environmental services company Veolia, cost around $7 million to build and accommodates approximately 140 full time employees; as well as over 90 vehicles.

DoD partners with Veolia on tyre recovery

The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) has partnered with Veolia for the recovery of 40,000 passenger tyres equivalents per year.

The announcement is an extension of Veolia’s existing six year defence contract, which began in 2014.

As part of the contract, Veolia will service 300 Defence locations throughout Australia, with many situated in remote and regional areas.
